It’s as traditional as broken boilers, abandoned resolutions and moulting trees pining for their lost fjordic needles. Come ning the bells then for fierce panda’s annual New Year-assaulting new band event, Pandamonium. As ever early 2020 sees a choice selection of current panda acts like Italia 90, Scrounge, MEMES and Albert Gold hunker down with a litany of newcomers-what-we-really-quite-like between January 8th and February 6th.
One of those chosen panda bandas is very much genteel stadium indie rocksters CHINA BEARS, who headline the third Pandamonium night. They ended 2019 with a terrific blast at the Old Blue Last and they’ll be kicking off 2020 with a no-doubt-victorious night out in Dalston hotly supported by Classic Yellow and Prima Queen, like this:

CHINA BEARS are four boys who inhabit the Home Counties and make a homely, humble alt.rock sound which is crafty and subtle but also big of melody and even bigger of heart. Their ‘I’ve Never Met Anyone Like You’ EP features five tracks mixing slowly smouldering indiepop nous with a nonchalent alt.rock passion. FFO Death Cab, The National, knowing musical greatness.

CLASSIC YELLOW are a bunch of fuzzed-up funboys who come from Dublin and create a swirling, whirling psych-popping sound which is cranky and cool and laconic and fun and is drummed by a drummer called Dylan Zovich. Strong.

PRIMA QUEEN are four worldly-wise women who’ve rocked up to Brockley to create a shimmeringly sensitive guitarpop soundtrack to put bittersweet sunshine in the darkest of hearts. Sometimes there is saxomaphone in their summertime sound.
